Ideally you want to ship items on your supplier’s account for 3 reasons -
- It’s faster than trying to have the supplier ship through your shipping account
- It’s cheaper because suppliers are shipping items in bulk and they get cheaper shipping rates
- If the item gets lost or damaged then it’s on the supplier to send out a new item and you don’t have to deal with it.
If they won’t ship on their account then you need to have someone pick it up and ship it for you (via FedEx, UPS, etc.). This will leave you with two different invoices (one from the supplier for the item and one from the shipping company). If there is an option between using their shipping account or your shipping account ALWAYS go with the supplier’s account.
If you have a huge/ large item that your supplier won’t ship on their account you should go through a freight shipping company (not FedEx, UPS, etc.) because freight shipping companies will have better rates that change. For this you should work with multiple different freight shipping brokers (from where the item is coming from and to) and the freight brokers will get you the best price and you can choose between those quotes.
